Multicines inaugurated its 12th 4D E‑Motion auditorium on April 25 at Bombolí Shopping, Santo Domingo, Ecuador.
The new complex features seven auditoriums equipped with laser projectors and Dolby audio. The 4D E‑Motion auditorium offers full immersion with 72 motion seats and special effects synchronized with the on‑screen action. The opening screened They Will Kill You (Warner Bros.), and since April 2 the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy (Universal Pictures) has been breaking records across all its 4D screens.
Multicines has established itself as a leader in innovation in regional film exhibitions and accounts for 45% of Ecuador’s box-office market. Its first 4D E‑Motion auditorium opened in October 2019 in Quito at Condado Shopping, successfully introducing the format to the country. The audience engagement was exceptional and, driven by demand, Multicines and Lumma forged a solid partnership that continues to grow.
In December 2020 Multicines installed a 104‑seat 4D E‑Motion auditorium at CCI in Quito. At a time of great uncertainty for the industry due to the pandemic, the company bet on attracting audiences by offering an innovative proposal, convinced it was essential to return with a differential experience. Maintaining its strong commitment to the format, in October 2021 Multicines opened a 4D E‑Motion auditorium in Cuenca at Millennium Plaza shopping center.
Guayaquil has three 4D E‑Motion auditoriums: the first was installed in 2023 at Mall del Norte; in 2024 the San Marino location opened; and in 2025 the Mall del Sur auditorium was inaugurated.
Multicines’ rollout of the 4D format was exponential: six of its twelve auditoriums were installed in 2025, including openings in new cities; Manta, Ambato and Machala. Quito has four 4D E‑Motion auditoriums; the largest, El Recreo, has 112 seats and is located in the country’s highest‑performing and most visited complex.
“With Lumma we have forged a seven‑year partnership that has always been a true win‑win. Their passion for continuous innovation and high level of professionalism are of great value to Multicines.” said Gonzalo López, General Manager of Multicines.
“We cannot conceive opening a new complex -nor undertaking a renovation- that does not include a 4D E‑Motion auditorium; moreover, this format contributes significantly to driving incremental attendance,” said López “Premium formats are the differentiating factors that have enabled us to overcome the challenges of the pandemic and compete in a global landscape, substantially increasing auditorium occupancy and boosting box‑office revenue. That is why we have reached Twelve 4D E‑Motion auditoriums and will continue with a steady growth plan” López added.
“It is an honor for Lumma to have been part of this success journey alongside Multicines, a regional benchmark and pioneer distinguished by the quality and constant innovation of its world‑class offerings for moviegoers,” said Marcos Franco, CEO of Lumma. “We thank Gonzalo López for his innovative vision and the entire Multicines team,” Franco added.
4D E‑Motion achieves the highest box‑office revenue and occupancy, consistently delivering the best performance among screens within each complex
Leading the way in innovation, Multicines incorporated Lumma’s Magnify 8 technology in May 2025 at two Quito locations—El Recreo and Scala Shopping. Both complexes also feature 4D E‑Motion auditoriums, further expanding the chain’s premium format offering.
